Prayers to Stay Sober When Temptation Is Strong & Relapse Seems Imminent
Just because you completed your time at a faith-based PHP doesn’t mean your struggle with addiction is over.
Recovery is a lifelong journey, and it comes with many trials and trepidations. Sometimes you may be feeling great, while other times you may struggle. When you are feeling your weakest or like you may relapse, faith and prayer may be able to save you.
Prayers to Stay Clean and Sober After Treatment
People pray for many things because they believe in God’s guidance. Recovery can be a trying time, so prayers to stay sober can help. At Faith in Recovery, we strongly believe in the power of prayer for drug addiction recovery, so we are sharing some of our favorite prayers to avoid relapse once you are back in the real world and no longer in formal treatment.
The Recovery Prayer by Abby Willowroot
“Today, I heal my body, my mind, my spirit, my life. Drugs are a part of my past; they are not part of my now, they are not part of my future. Today, I am clean. Today, I am clean and free.
Today, I am becoming strong one second at a time, one thought at a time, one action at a time. I am learning how to live and to be the best part of me today. Today, I am clean and free.”
This prayer speaks directly about how drugs are no longer a part of your life, and they do not need to be. It also has a tone related to freedom to help you feel empowered about being sober.
Corinthians 6:12
“Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.”
This prayer is a reminder that you are stronger than the hold that drugs and alcohol have over you. You will no longer be controlled by them.
Personal Prayer
Everyone is different and everyone is struggling with their own demons in recovery. Because of this, you do not need to follow a formal prayer. Speak from the heart and be brutally honest with yourself. Tell God exactly why you are struggling and why you need His help. You may not only find that He will answer your prayers, but you may also find that you discover something new about yourself.
As a
Christian addiction treatment center, we recommend that you follow these prayers to stay sober when you are starting to feel tempted to use again. They could prevent you from falling back into your addiction. If temptation does get the better of you, take action immediately. Our
faith-based relapse recovery help is designed to get you back on track before you fall too hard off the wagon.
