Christian Addiction Detox Programs
Detox Programs at Faith in Recovery
Addiction is a psychologically and physically impactful disease that can change a person’s life and character completely. It often begins with casual experimentation and eventually spirals into a serious problem. The body slowly becomes tolerant of these substances, and later dependent on them as well. Addiction occurs when an individual is unable to control their substance use or quit on their own. A detox program is the first step in the recovery process for most people with addictions. However, withdrawals - the body’s reaction to a lack of drugs or alcohol- are often the source of concern for many individuals who want to receive drug or alcohol addiction treatment. Our detox programs at Faith in Recovery are led by a medical team that works together to create a safe and comfortable environment where patients can begin their recovery journey.
What is Medical Detox?
When the body becomes dependent on drugs or alcohol, the removal of these substances can cause psychological and behavioral symptoms. A medically monitored detox program provides a safe and clean environment where patients can withdraw from these substances under medical supervision. The medical staff leading the detox treatment may also administer medication to a patient if required or as needed to mitigate any discomfort and prevent any complications. The best detox program is one that’s accompanied by medical assistance.
There is a wide range of symptoms that patients may experience during detox. Some common symptoms of withdrawal include:
- Shaking or tremors
- Body aches and pains
- Nausea and vomiting
- Excessive sweating
- Drug or alcohol cravings
Alcohol and drug detox programs that are done under medical supervision are safer and easier to complete than attempting an at-home drug or alcohol detox treatment. Although medical detox centers like our Christian drug rehab can’t prevent all of these symptoms, they can greatly reduce the discomfort and pain they may cause.
Does Detox Treat Addiction?
Yes and no. A medical drug or alcohol detox program aids the recovery process by cleansing the body of addictive substances and relieving acute withdrawal symptoms. Detox also allows the patient to adjust to the physical lack of drugs and alcohol by mitigating addiction cravings. However, one of the things you should know about detox is that a full detox program does not address the root cause of addiction nor does it give you all the tools you’ll need to maintain sobriety. Going to a medical detox center is only the first step in the entire process. Most patients who undergo a medically assisted detox then move onto our inpatient treatment, otherwise known as our Christian residential treatment program. This form of treatment requires patients to live onsite during the duration of their program to ensure they recover and develop relapse prevention strategies before going back home.
