Veteran Faith-based Addiction Programs

Veterans in Recovery

After many years of running drug and alcohol treatment programs, we know there is strong evidence demonstrating the power of a faith-based approach to combatting substance abuse.  Our Faith in Recovery program helps veterans find the inspiration they need to establish or renew spiritual ties to God.  Sometimes, we question how we found ourselves entangled in a web of drug abuse and a perpetual toxic lifestyle.

Seeking God

We often ask, “Why does God make us suffer?”  Without struggle, we would not know strength because God is always building you even when it seems like he is breaking you.

God never allows pain without a purpose.  Suffering reveals to us our weaknesses and shows us the need for a Savior in our lives.  It reminds us all things are possible only when we combine our human strength with God's miraculous strength.

For many people, they will hit a rock bottom and surrender surrender their will to God’s will.  After several weeks at our Faith in Recovery program at Pompano Beach, Florida, patients start to find meaning and purpose within their life as they as they begin to restore or establish their relationship with God. They begin to rebuild broken relationships, and mend hearts and family ties.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment:  Partial Hospitalization (PHP) for Veterans

This level of care is a step down from Residential treatment and mimics a real life setting while receiving full-time treatment and 24-hour support in Pompano Beach, FL. Patients continue to receive individual and group therapeutic programming during the day at the center and live off site in structured housing a few minutes away. The facility technicians handle all transportation to and from the center where the therapy takes place.

This level of care helps patients become responsible with their daily living routines including preparing meals, grocery shopping, chores, practicing good hygiene, self-care, learn life skills and how to function without drugs or alcohol.

Mental Health Treatment: Partial Hospitalization (PHP) for Veterans

Faith in Recovery for Veterans offers outpatient Mental Health Treatment. This form of mental health treatment for Veterans is meant to help them cope with the trauma they experienced while being deployed overseas in combat, struggles with mood or thought disorders, etc.  Patients will begin therapeutic programming which includes daily individual and group sessions that take place at our center in Pompano Beach, FL.  These sessions take place 5-7 days a week, 6-8 hours per day.

Dual Diagnosis, Commonly Known as Co-occurring Disorders

We help veterans with mental health disorders as a primary diagnosis who may not be abusing drugs or alcohol.  However, if the veterans are experiencing issues with both mental health disorders and substance abuse, otherwise known as a dual diagnosis, we can treat that at our Pompano Beach location as well. We have a separate mental health and substance abuse detox unit.

Therapies

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT)

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a unique form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) used for war veterans who have experienced trauma. It is specifically tailored to address the thoughts associated with traumatic experiences.  Usually, it is a short-term form of therapy that lasts between 8 and 25 sessions, although additional therapy may be needed in aftercare to address secondary problems resulting from the trauma symptoms.

Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT)

This therapy for veterans helps them permanently overcome the ongoing effects that result from traumatic experiences.

RRT is a combination of guided imagery, hypnosis, stories, and purposeful communication that creates a response from the subconscious part of the brain to remove the challenging effects of trauma. Unlike traditional cognitive therapy, which only focuses on the cognitive brain, RRT addresses the emotional brain and limbic system.  In essence, RRT treatment is not emotionally painful where patients do not re-experience or expose themselves to their fears, and therapists do not experience secondhand trauma.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is relatively new and is a form of psychotherapy that has been gaining popularity over the last decade.  It is designed to alleviate stress associated with traumatic memories.  It involves the notion that the mind is continuously moving toward mental health unless something blocks that flow. The goal of this therapy is to remove that blockage.

EMDR therapy uses eye movements, sounds, or pulsations to stimulate the brain. Using these sensory techniques in conjunction with focusing on a traumatic memory can create changes in the brain that help a client overcome symptoms of depression, anger, and anxiety, among other issues.

Veteran Family Programming

Our family program is designed to educate the people closest to our veterans about the disease of addiction and the road to recovery.  It is often difficult, if not impossible, for a person to recover from addiction without the support of their loved ones, so we make every effort to include them in the recovery process. Group family meetings, along with the Family Addiction Education and Support Groups, give veterans in recovery and their families a chance to repair the bonds that were damaged by addiction – and build new, positive relationships that enhance the lives of everyone.  Our individual therapy sessions help veterans in recovery explore the dysfunctional family dynamics that are underlying issues for some of the patients’ substance abuse or mental health issues– and address them in a new way.

Telemedicine

Telemedicine or telehealth is commonly used for digital therapy sessions. At Veterans in Recovery, we offer telemedicine therapy as part of your aftercare and continued therapeutic programming.   This form of digital therapy is done with a HIPAA compliant video conferencing system that allows you to have a private video conference-based session with your therapist.  It enables long-distance remote contact for continued care, evaluation, intervention, education, and monitoring.

Alumni Services

Veterans in Recovery understands that the journey of recovery does not end once treatment is completed.  We are committed to helping our veteran alumni successfully adjust back into their everyday life by offering them continued guidance during this transition into the real world. Upon discharge, our staff will maintain telephone contact to monitor the recovery process. During calls, we will assist in keeping our alumni on the road to recovery and help foster continued sobriety.

For veterans and their families who are struggling and are looking to a higher power to help them find the strength and the will to live again, we are here for you.
