Bible Verses About Healing That Can Help in Your Recovery Journey

Addiction can cause severe damage to a person’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

In order to find lasting success in recovery, the person needs to heal in all of these facets. Healing is a process, but it is doable, especially with help and a strong conscious effort.

Healing Verses for Addiction Recovery

Especially for those who may have gone to a faith-based rehab facility for treatment, their faith has already played a role in the healing process during their recovery journey. Although formal treatment may be over, more healing needs to be done and faith can still expedite this process. For these people, one way to assist in this healing process may be by reading or studying Bible verses about healing.

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This Bible scripture on healing reminds readers that God is here to help strengthen us and lift us up when we are feeling down. For people in recovery who are only just beginning the healing process, this passage can give them hope for the future and encourage them to continue taking steps forward.

James 5:14-15

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.”

In this passage from James, prayer and faith are means of healing the sick. The scripture verse on healing also discusses forgiveness for those who have sinned. For the recovering addict who may be struggling with their past wrongdoings, being told that God also forgives those who have sinned can be a comforting reminder.

Luke 10:9

“Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”

Here, Jesus is speaking to his disciples and tells them to spread the word of God and His power to heal. Addiction itself is a disease that requires healing on many levels. This passage reminds those in need of healing, like those in addiction recovery, that God has the power to provide this healing.

James 5:6

"Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

No one is perfect, but if you confess your sins and believe in the Lord, you can be healed from these sins. Many former addicts have let their addiction get the best of them and lead them to commit sinful acts, but this passage reminds us that if they believe in God, they can still be forgiven. This forgiveness can cleanse their soul and help them heal in several ways.

Recovery from a substance abuse problem is a long process, but these Bible verses about healing along with other faith-based addiction therapies can help people find strength in their journey and stay on the right track.
